The creation of this SLP was inspired by a community engagement activity for an international collaborative project between Tshwane University of Technology (SA), Eco-V (SA) and Coventry University (UK). Furthermore, the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering in collaboration with the Technology Station in Electronics (TSE) has identified a gap in theoretical comprehension of renewable energy technology, especially solar technology.
The purpose of this programme is to upskill attendees with sound theoretical knowledge in the areas of solar electric harvesting, remote monitoring (a division of Internet of Things and Entrepreneurship).
This SLP is an on-line programme and is normally offered on a part-time bases over a period of 10 weeks (5 hours per week, 50 hours total including all learning activities) on-line. The programme structure is flexible and can also be offered over a shorter duration, as long as the total teaching and learning hours accumulate to 50 hours total.
It is assumed that the participants registering for this programme has at least basic schooling up to senior level (NQF level 4). Participants should be fluent in the technical usage of the English language and has access to a stable internet connection and computer. The participant should be confident in using on-line browsers as the programme will be presented on-line.
The following topics will be covered:
This course is indented for any individual interested in solar technologies and how these can be applied to either save on monthly municipal bills, add convenience of having an uninterrupted power supply, contribute to green living by reducing their carbon footprint or using solar technologies for safety and health critical systems. Economic sectors who can benefit from solar technologies are broad and include domestic applications, commercial applications, agricultural applications, rural or remote applications and even maritime and specialized applications.
